It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Elton Brand's apparent move to the 76ers is a huge blow to the L.A. Clippers... The Red Headed step child of Los Angeles basketball just took another kick to the sternum... This is nothing new for a franchise whose star crested with a handful of 1st round playoff defeats... but this one is particularly painful because of how it unfolded... A week ago Brand unexpectedly opted out of his contract to provide the Clippers with salary flexibility to help the team add a core piece... it all seemed choreographed when 24 hours later Brand's close friend All-Star PG Barron Davis also opted out of his deal and made a verbal commitment to join the Clips...
For once it seemed everything was coming up rosy in Clipperland... but come on this is the Clippers and things are bound to go bad... yesterday things did go bad as Brand took his 20 and 10 to Philly in what now appears to be a formidable contender in the East... The Clips are now left with a gaping hole in their front line... and lack of candidates to fill Brand's role in the paint... At least the franchise is well acquainted with picking in the lottery because Brand's bolt places them squarely at the bottom of the Western Conference for at least the next half decade.... and to rub salt in the wound high scoring swing man Cory Magette is also bolting LA for a sweet deal up the street with Golden State...
